Wings Credit Union kicks off Hunger Action Month with effort to help feed families and strengthen communities
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – September is Hunger Action Month, and Wings Credit Union is teaming up with local nonprofits to address food insecurity across Colorado. Throughout the month, Wings will work to raise community donations for hunger relief and match eligible contributions to local food banks up to $100,000, creating a potential $200,000 investment in local hunger relief efforts.
"Financial well-being begins with meeting basic needs, and access to nutritious food is one of the most fundamental," said Annie Snead, Wings vice president of community impact and Wings Foundation executive director. "Hunger Action Month is an opportunity to join together in support of organizations doing critical work in this space every day. Whether someone gives, volunteers, advocates or simply starts a conversation, every action helps move us closer to a future where fewer families have to wonder where their next meal will come from."
The Hunger Action Month campaign builds on Wings' ongoing support of local organizations addressing food insecurity, including Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, Food Bank of the Rockies, Food Bank for Larimer County, and Weld Food Bank. Throughout September, community members can support the effort by making a monetary donation to these nonprofits or by contributing nonperishable food items at any Wings location. Wings employees will also be volunteering throughout the month at these nonprofits.
The campaign is designed to support local hunger relief efforts while raising awareness of an issue that continues to impact families throughout Colorado. Recent community assessments by Feeding America continue to show that food insecurity remains a challenge for many Colorado households with one in eight Coloradans facing food insecurity.
