Check these two items on your tax return to avoid delays in processing your refund:
- Indicate the account type for your refund — savings or checking. Use your basic account number to have your refund deposited into your savings account. Provide your 13-digit MICR number if you would like to have your refund deposited into your checking account. (Your MICR is available within online banking and is printed on the bottom of your checks.)
- Verify that the name on the account matches the name on the tax return. If there are errors in this information, your refund direct deposit will be “returned” to the IRS. The IRS will then mail your tax refund by check within 21 days of receiving your returned direct deposit. You can check the status of your tax refund at any time by visiting the IRS’s Where’s My Refund page at IRS.gov.
