Spot Phone Scams - also called "Vishing" Scams

The latest development in phone scams are sometimes called "vishing," because they use Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone systems which can impersonate or "spoof" legitimate business names and phone numbers on your CallerID.

A phone scammer attempts to contact you with a "plausible" call from a reputable company, and attempts to get you to provide personal information over the phone.

Ent and its affiliates, vendors and regulators – like the NCUA – will never call you and ask you to verify your account number, Social Security Number, PIN, or any other sensitive financial information over the phone.

  • Be suspicious of callers that ask for personal information. If you did not initiate the call, you cannot be sure you are speaking to the organization/phone number shown on your Caller ID. (VoIP technology allows fraudsters to "spoof" phone numbers and business names.)

A legitimate business will understand if you need to call them back at their main published number before providing personal information.

  • If you receive an email asking you to call a special phone number (typically toll-free) to provide or verify personal information, forward the email (as an attachment) to Ent's Information Security department at security@ent.com for investigation.
