Saving Tips:
- Pay Yourself First
Make savings a part of your fixed expenses in your budget, much like your rent, mortgage, or utility payments.
- Make Savings Automatic
If you can, set up automatic savings deposits out of each paycheck. Even if it’s a small amount, stick with it every month. If you never see it, you might not miss it.
Use our Savings Plan Calculator to see just how quickly even a small amount can add up.
- Establish a Goal
This goes along with making savings automatic; set short term and long term goals and create visuals and plans for how you are going to get there. Map out obstacles that might come your way and prepare for them.
Use our Savings Goal Calculator to see how quickly you can reach your savings goal.
- Budget Your Expenses
Be aware of how much income you receive and how much you have to spend each month (cars, school tuition, rent, food, clothes, etc.). Once you calculate your expenses, you can create a budget that will help you clearly see where your money is coming in and going out.
Visit our Money Management page for more tips on budgeting and financial fitness.
- Go on a "Crash" Budget
Try to cut out all unnecessary spending and save as much as possible for a certain amount of time. Do this once every quarter.
- Easy Ways to Save
Empty out your pockets each day and deposit all the loose change in your savings at the end of each month.
Once you've decided how much you can put aside each month, and depending on your goal, you'll need to choose the right savings vehicle. Not sure which one is right for you? Our member service representatives can help advise you on what type of
product might best fit your saving needs.
