Challenge Questions
With online phishing attacks and personal data compromises regularly in the news, and with federal regulations mandating "multi-factor authentication" for online account access, Ent has added Challenge Questions to the Online Banking log on process to better protect you from electronic identity theft and fraud.
How Challenge Questions work:
You may not even realize it – but you have a routine of when and how you access Online Banking: the computers and web browsers you use, the time of day, even the city and state you are accessing the internet from. When you log on to Online Banking outside of your regular routine we will ask you a Challenge Question to verify your identity before you are able to view your account information online. We will also ask you a Challenge Question from time to time (around once a month), even if you are accessing your account within your regular routine, for added online security.
For you, answering these previously answered questions will be easy. For an unauthorized user, these answers are difficult to guess and should stop them from accessing your account.
Setting Up Challenge Questions within Online Banking:
Add this additional layer of security to your account in two easy steps:
- Select 3 different Challenge Questions from question lists that we provide (or use our "Create your own question" feature to personalize your questions).
- Provide your answers to the questions you have selected.

Why was this feature added?
This security enhancement has been developed as an added level of protection against identity theft and the threats posed by fraudsters impersonating legitimate businesses online. The goal of this enhancement is to help insure that you - and only you - are accessing your account online. In addition, this enhancement complies with federal regulations mandating "multi-factor authentication" for online account access.

How do I set up Challenge Questions on my account?
If you don't already have Challenge Questions set up on your account, when you log on to Online Banking we will take you to the Challenge Question Set Up page where you will select 3 different Challenge Questions from question lists that we provide (or use our "Create your own question" feature to personalize your questions).
When you select your Challenge Questions, select or create questions with answers that are easy to remember. Because a good Challenge Question is something you "know" the answer to - not something additional you have to "remember" like an alpha numeric password - the standard question options include things like "What was your high school mascot?" and "What city did you honeymoon in?"
-
How do I create my own Challenge Questions?
To create your own question for one or more of your three required Challenge Questions, select the "Create your own question..." option from the question drop down list.
Tips for creating strong Challenge Questions:
Avoid creating questions that:
- Have a limited number of answers or very predictable answers. (Example: Yes/No questions like "Is the sky blue?")
- Have answers many people could know.
- Have your public information – name, phone number, street address, etc. - as the answer. (Example: "What is my current zip code?")
Remember, the goal of Challenge Questions is to stop fraudsters from accessing your account online by asking questions that you – and only you (or your account's joint owner) – will know. By creating strong Challenge Questions, you’ll be getting the maximum benefit from this security feature.
-
What if I forget the answers to my Challenge Questions?
You will have several opportunities to answer a Challenge Question correctly before the system locks you out. If you are locked out we have an online self-service tool that will allow you to reset your Challenge Questions 24/7 and regain access to your account.
However, you must have a valid email address to use this self-service reset option.
If you do not have a valid email address please contact us
at (719) 574-1100 or 800-525-9623 for assistance.
- Am I required to use Challenge Questions? Can I opt out of this feature?
We believe that Challenge Questions are the least intrusive form of "multi-factor
authentication" which Federal regulation mandates all banks and credit unions
support. The use of this feature adds an additional layer
of protection to your account(s) when you access them online at Ent.
Federal regulations do not allow individual members to opt out of this security feature.
- What happens if I don't have Challenge Questions set up on my account today?
When you log on to Online Banking after October 1st you will be taken to the Challenge Question set up page to add Challenge Questions to your account.
The option "I'll set up my Challenge Questions later." will no longer be available.
You will continue to have access to Online Banking, once you have set up Challenge Questions on your account.
